Flooding Season Bulletin
During this flooding season, ALL water damage companies are being inundated with calls for people needing help.
Don’t Be Taken Advantage of!
If a water damage company does happen to be available to come out and help you, it would be a waste of your hard-earned money. This is because the water is still coming in as their equipment is running. A great example would be: Trying to rinse your hair, while someone is slowly adding soap. It’s a never-ending process.
Insurance
This type of water damage is considered “Intrusion” typically insurance companies do not afford coverage for this type of claim. If there is a sump pump involved and it fails, you may have coverage for sump pump failure. Be sure to check your circuit breaker and your GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets. Call your insurance company and verify you have a sump pump endorsement.
What to do?
- Place a box fan blowing any humid air outside to exhaust moisture.
- Remove any materials i.e. area rugs, furniture, carpet pad, etc. from the area to minimize absorption and wicking.
- Build a dam using towels, blankets, sandbags, etc. to isolate the water into one area. This allows you to control and manage where the water pools. Extract these pools of water using a sump pump or a wet/dry vacuum (ShopVac).
- Once the Water Stops coming into your home you can proceed to start the drying process!
